Mark Williams talks approach ahead of 25-point night against Jazz
A 1-3 record is not attractive Phoenix Sunsbut progress by Mark Williams was a welcome sight, especially after the team’s overtime loss to the Utah Jazz.
After that The Suns traded for Williams in the draftmany thought it was a mistake due to his injury history.
However, during the offseason, head coach Jordan Ott and the strength and conditioning staff made sure to put Williams through a structured program to get him 100% physically and mentally ready.
It can be said that it worked. Despite the Phoenix loss, he had a season-high 25 points and 11 rebounds in 31 minutes of overtime.
He looked effective inside, was an immediate threat on the puck and showed a lot around the league, something the Suns lacked from an interior big man like Williams.
While this was a positive step for Williams, he knew that this kind of performance it was not a question of whether. It was a question of when.
“I feel like I’ve done a lot of good things. The steps have been planned since I’ve been here. Credit to them, but I’ve taken it in since I’ve been here and I feel like tonight was a little bit to show what I can do,” Williams said, via AZCentral’s Duane Rankin.
“It was good. I would have liked the result to have been a little different.”
Mark Williams gathers the Suns around him

Media day and training camp raised two massive questions: Can Williams play in the season opener, and will injuries derail a promising season?
Four games is a small sample, but it seems to be there something else to prove for the former duke of the great man. After all, Williams was part of a near trade with the Los Angeles Lakers last season.
Trade has been discontinued and a veritable bonfire may have been lit under the center. Phoenix jumped at the chance to get him after the first trade in the draft.
Even with The depth of the Sun’s center is a legitimate questionmany thought Williams would inevitably be the starter. If his health continues to improve, along with his confidence, it will only be a matter of time.
