Matt Eberflus highlights 2 factors in the defensive 180

The The Dallas Cowboys played well late, typing at the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs in a four-day span last week to suddenly get their fans thinking about the playoffs. The Cowboys still have a lot of work to do to make those conversations realistic, but for now, the team can be happy that its much-maligned defense has finally risen to the occasion.
Most recently the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus highlighted what does he believe to be the reason for the turnaround.
“Consistency and continuity,” Eberflus said, according to Joseph Hoyt of the Dallas Morning News on X, formerly Twitter.
The Cowboys’ defense hasn’t exactly been a model of consistency and continuity all year, but they’re finally starting to make some strides in that department lately, getting key stops against the Chiefs and Eagles when they absolutely had to.
For the first few weeks of the season, Dallas’ defensive unit was in many ways the laughingstock of the league, with many quarterbacks, including Giants QB Russell Wilson, who has since been benched, approaching career days whenever they saw the Cowboys on the schedule.
However, the Cowboys have since started to clean things up on that end of the field, with the help of some injury reinforcements, and now appear to have a legitimate chance to compete for a Wild Card spot in the NFC. Meanwhile, Dak Prescott and the offense are starting to regain their early-season form after a short stretch, making Dallas suddenly look like a real contender.
The Cowboys are currently over the .500 mark at 6-5-1, and will have a chance to pick up another big win on Thursday when they hit the road to take on the Detroit Lions. That game is scheduled to begin at 8:15 p.m. ET from Detroit.
