Matt Ishbia’s promise to Dillon Brooks amid trade rumors

Bad news for other NBA teams… Dillon Brooks probably stays with Phoenix Suns. But when was his name thrown into the mix of trade rumors? It happened on Monday, and Suns owner Matt Ishby said Brooks isn’t going anywhere.
He shut down the rumor the moment it happened. During Wednesday’s shootaround before facing the Memphis Grizzlies, Brooks echoed Ishbia’s sentiment.
“He was saying I was going to be a long-term Phoenix Sun,” Brooks said, via AZCentral’s Duane Rankin. The forward also added that it was nice for Ishby to keep those situations at home.
It’s a step up from what happened around this time last season. Kevin Durant was almost traded to the Golden State Warriors. He quickly shut it down and it made for some interesting dialogue for the rest of the season.
Fast forward to 2025-26, and Brooks has cemented himself as a mainstay in the Valley of the Sun.
Matt Ishbia likes Dillon Brooks changing Suns culture
The stats and career highlights jump out, but it is Brooks’ influence as a cultural figure it gets the attention it should. Every team he was on was useful defensively.
A big part of his game is about mindset. He may not have the talent that other guys have, but Brooks’ work ethic is second to none and has been highlighted by his teammates.
In return, he expects his teammates to give the same level of effort, if not more, than he does. Almost halfway through the seasonThe Suns are six games over .500, and a lot of that has to do with Brooks.
He brings juice and competitiveness from this group. Even with someone like Devin Booker on the team, Brooks’ impact could make him untouchable during the remaining weeks of the trade deadline.
