Mavericks overwhelmed by Bulls collective

kobi white bullsAfter three straight losses against teams in their conference (Hornets, Celtics, Pistons), the Bulls get back on track against a team from the West. Billy Donovan’s men didn’t have too much trouble getting rid of the Mavs (125-107) who were quickly without their coach Jason Kidd, who was fired.

For the victory, Chicago could count on the good performances of the elements of its “hindsight”. Coby Whiteauthor of 22 points, i Aio Dosunmu20 points and 8 assists with maximum efficiency (7/9 on shots). Five other home players have reached or surpassed the 13-unit mark.

In contrast, six players reached or surpassed the 10-point mark, including 16 units for Ryan Nembhard, but with less impact. The Mavs, who never led in this game, trailed by 11 points (55-66) at the break. This deficit was maintained until the beginning of the fourth quarter, where the game definitely shifted in favor of the home team.

The Bulls used a good pass from Kevin Huerter, the author of a good inside pass to Matas Bouzelis, a 3-point basket in transition, then a “2+1” on the counterattack to run away a little more. After another missed shot by Cooper Flagg, the same Bouzelis counterattacked at full speed to dunk to continue a 10-0 run started by his teammate.

Chicago had a 20-point lead (104-84) with nine minutes left. Throughout the streak, the Bulls would go 21-4 to outscore their opponents a little more (115-88), and then they wouldn’t be worried.

WHAT TO REMEMBER

Jason Kidd sees red. Back to the locker room after a few minutes of play for the Mavs coach. Midway through the first quarter, the coach had a heated exchange with one of the referees, Scott Foster. Seconds earlier, Max Christie was penalized for “swallowing” after blocking Ayo Dosunmu, even though the ball hadn’t touched the board beforehand. Jason Kidd didn’t like that the referees didn’t give him a “challenge” to review the contested action. Result, double technical foul synonymous with ejection.

Bulls are used to such distribution of points. Seeing a number of elements score 10 or more points was especially important early in the Bulls’ season. And on this night, responsibilities were mostly shared. All members of the five (Kobe White, Ayo Dosunmu, Matas Bouzelis, Nikola Vucevic and Isaac Okoro) scored at least 13 points, as well as two elements from the bench (Tre Jones and Kevin Huerter). This is the 11th time this season that seven players finished with at least 10 points.

Cooper Flagg I used. Two days after his 26-point outing against the Jazz, the Mavs big man had a much harder time expressing himself in this game, scoring just 11 points on 4/13 shooting. In the last quarter, we saw a few balls get out of his hands on passes that weren’t really contested by his teammates.
