Miami shows the ‘formula’ for success in a big win over the Pacers
MIAMI – After The Miami Heat had a huge win against the Atlanta Hawksthe team didn’t have time to rest, and they faced the Indiana Pacers in the second game of a back-to-back on Saturday night. With Heat stars Bam Adebayo and Tyler Hero still don’t have time, the team kept the ship afloat with a victory that resembled how they played early in the season by defeating the Pacers, 142-116.
Saturday marked the sixth time this season that Miami has scored at least 140 points in a game, and to put that into perspective, the franchise has done it just eight times under the current schedule. However, the difference really came in the fourth, as the Heat and Indiana were in a tight battle for most of the game, despite the Pacers having the worst record in the league with them now 6-26.
Still, Miami needed a decisive finish at the end, which they did, led by key contributors Andrew Wiggins and Jaime Jaquez Jr., each with 28 points and gave their success in other categories. Head coach Erik Spoelstra told ClutchPoint after the game that there was a “great spirit” in the last two games, resulting in clarity that has returned them to their winning formula.
“Well, it’s been a great spirit, really, the last 48 hours, guys just lost themselves in the team, in the game, in the process of what it took to win these games,” Spoelstra said. “And I think above all else, there was just great clarity of mind. Nobody got in each other’s way…and we have a great locker room, it was just great defensive spirit and a cohesive collective offense.”
“We know what the formula is, and we know when we get out of it,” Spoelstra continued. “But it was great to see the back and forth, and the Pacers have done that almost all year. You can’t look at their record. It’s a proud group, a very competitive group.”
Asked Erik Spoelstra about the turnovers in the win over Indiana that led to taking full control in the fourth:

Jaime Jaquez Jr. on what has worked for the Heat in the last two games

There were many of them unsung heroes for heat in a win over the lowly Pacers, as well as the usual suspects Jaquez, Wiggins, Norman Powelland Kel’el Ware, the team had crucial results from Nikola Jovic, Drew Smith and others. While a stat sheet may say one thing about a particular player, the impact goes beyond the numbers on a piece of paper, but the general understanding is that Miami is turning to what made them successful to start the season.
Starting 14-7, the Heat took the league by storm thanks to a free-flowing, fast-paced offensive system that was one of the NBA’s leading teams in points per game, but that would change, as it did before Friday’s win over Atlanta.
However, if Saturday showed anything, it’s that the team could go back to what it’s been working on since training camp, like Jacques he echoed the same sentiments. In the win against Indiana, Jaquez scored 28 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the field, along with six rebounds and three assists.
“A lot,” Jaquez told ClutchPoints when asked what has worked for the Heat over the last two games. “Collectively, we’re really just embracing the principles that we’ve been working on since training camp. We’ve kind of moved away from that. And, you know, we’ve realized that what works, works for us and that’s cutting, disrupting, being reckless, playing fast. So we’ve really gone back to what wins for us, and we just embrace that identity and embrace every night.”
He asked Jaime Jaquez Jr. after the game what worked for the Heat in the previous two.
“A lot. Together we’re buying into the principles we’ve been working on since training camp. We’ve kind of come out of it. We’ve figured out what works, works…” #HeatNation pic.twitter.com/0fmAkDo4V4

Either way, Miami is now 17-15 and looks set to continue its winning streak as one against a quality team in the 22-9 Denver Nuggets would do the trick in boosting confidence as the two teams face off on Monday.
