Michael Porter Jr. reveals he was playing through an MCL sprain
Michael Porter Jr. revealed he was playing through a knee injury due to a drop in production the past two weeks. The Brooklyn Nets forward said he suffered an MCL sprain during a Jan. 7 loss to the Orlando Magic.
“I was actually dealing with the MCL, a little sprain against Orlando. … My knee was a little sore, so I wasn’t as explosive in some of my moves to get open. It’s getting better,” Porter told the New York Post’s Brian Lewis.
Porter finished the loss against the Magic after suffering an injury and did not appear on the Nets’ injury report for the next game. The 27-year-old has appeared in five of Brooklyn’s last seven games, sitting at the front end of the pair back to back for vacation. He has yet to appear in a series this season.

Porter was among the most efficient scorers in the NBA this season. However, his production and efficiency declined after the injury.
The 6-foot-10 sharpshooter is averaging 23.0 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.2 turnovers on 43.3 percent shooting from the field and 33.3 percent from three in his last five appearances. Brooklyn posted a 1-4 record during those contests.
Despite this, Jordi Fernandez insisted on it Porter wouldn’t play if he wasn’t physically fit.
“He had some discomfort, but he continued to play. He played until the end,” Fernandez said. “We value the health of our players, and if it was something that didn’t allow him to play, we would do whatever it takes to figure it out. But he played, so I don’t think there’s anything else to say about it.”

Porter’s breakout season as the No. 1 option. 1 in Brooklyn has him on the verge of his first All-Star appearance. It also made him the best player available on the trade market before the February 5 deadline.
