Michigan State makes a key addition to the transfer portal

Michigan State Football delivered its first attempt to strengthen ahead of 2025. Do landing one of the best portal players still availableand one new one from the championship series.

The Spartans and head coach Jonathan Smith are adding offensive tackle Connor Moore, according to On3.com’s Pete Nakos on Saturday night. Nakos calls the former Montana State star a “massive pickup” to close the winter transfer window.

Moore recently covered the running lanes and protected the passer for the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) runner-up national championship. His Bobcats fell 35-32 to North Dakota State – ruining Montana State’s perfect season.

Now he jumps from one MSU to another. Although this MSU is better known throughout college football. Plus it gives Moore a chance to prove he can handle the rigors of a power conference.

Michigan State adds All-American to portal

Moore brings a ton of accolades to East Lansing.

He is a two-time FCS All-American who bounced between guard and tackle. He started 12 games at the tight end position, which saw him cover the blind side.

Montana State, with Moore helping clear the way, provided a strong scoring attack in its run to the FCS title. The Bobcats have never scored under 30 points in any of their games. They also started the year by beating a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) opponent 35-31 to start the season.

Still, Moore’s decision puts him back in Big 10 country. The 6-foot-5, 310-pounder hails from Millsbury, Ohio. It was even scheduled to visit Ohio State on Saturday, according to Nakos. Ohio State’s Big 12 Conference representative, Cincinnati, was another on Moore’s radar when he entered the portal.

He is officially the fourth offensive line addition via portal. However, he is the first national team member. Michigan State has Wake Forest’s Matt Gulbin and Oregon State’s Luka Vincic coming in at guard/center. The latter shares the Beavers’ previous connection with Smith.

The Spartans return starting tackles Stanton Ramil and Ashton Lepp. But now Moore can push one of them for playing time.
