Mike Breen goes 100% real on Guerschon Iabusele after a brutal sequence
The The New York Knicks have made adding depth a priority last offseason after their Sept. 2024 Karl-Anthony Towns trade put them too close to the tax apron and prevented them from adding more supporting pieces. One of the players the Knicks added was Gershon Yabusele, a man whose NBA career experienced a resurgence after becoming a true player overseas.
However, Jabusele wasn’t nearly as good with the Knicks as he was with the Philadelphia 76ers last season. The 30-year-old French big man has even found himself out of the rotation in recent games. But on Thursday night, with Karl-Anthony Towns and Mitchell Robinson sidelined against the Indiana Pacers, Yabusele was presented with an opportunity that he ultimately fumbled.
After a brutal first half sequence that capped off a terrible first half for Jabusele in which he posted a plus-minus of -14 in his first five minutes, the Knicks are played by play-by-play commentator and Hall of Famer Mike Breen became 100 percent real to his struggles.
“Every turnover, every missed shot, every defensive mistake is so magnified because he wants so desperately to play well,” Breen said via @NBA_NewYork on X (formerly Twitter).

Gershon Yabusele is still in a Knicks uniform

Yabusele found himself fourth in the Knicks’ center order, and Ariel Hookporti got the start for New York in their win over Indiana on Thursday (courtesy of Jalen Brunson’s game-winner). Huckporti played 27 minutes, while Iabusele only played 11. In those 11 minutes, Iabusele ended up with a -17 on the night.
The veteran forward simply has to let the game come to him; it seems like he’s trying to do too much at the moment which makes his every misadventure feel worse. But the Knicks, a team with conflicting aspirations, can’t afford to wait for him to figure it out.
