Mike Brown reveals the great Josh Hart
OG Anunoby’s injuries and Landry Shamet paradoxically, he allowed the Knicks to fall back into old habits. Indeed, Mike Brown turned Josh Hart to replace the Briton in the big five. Substitute until then, the international winger has experienced a complicated start to the season and has therefore found significant playing time.
And that changes everything because he puts up big stats and New York doesn’t lose anymore: four matches, four wins. So, was the Knicks coach wrong to bench the former Portlander?
“Especially in our first three losses, I guess the consequences”, the coach answerswho then played very little with his player, shy and coming back from injury. “You’ve got to remember at the time he wasn’t really playing in the pre-season, especially in training. So I was in a tough spot, trying to fit him into what we were trying to do. It takes time, that’s all, and he’s been very patient in the process.”
A symbol of sacrifice and an example of giving
His last match against the Raptors is still excellent with 20 points, 4/7 on 3-pointers, 12 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals. This is in line with his averages since he started again: 17 points, 11.8 rebounds, 7 assists and 2.8 steals per game, with excellent percentages (53% shooting and 45% on 3-pointers).
“We have a standard and it’s a contract signed by all the players, hanging in the dressing room: it talks about sacrifice, togetherness, competitive spirit, belief in everyone. Josh is huge in these areas.”insists Mike Brown. “His sense of sacrifice is crazy. When I took him out he was just sitting there and when I called him he was playing and most importantly he believed in this process even though he thought I was wrong. It’s great.”
The more he plays, the more Josh Hart performs and the better the machine works together. This is what Mike Brown discovered in the past few days. And this increase in power must serve the group as a whole.
“When you are a leader, you have to show it and you have to accept these situations more than others, because you have to set an example. So if a player deviates from our standards, you can bring him back and tell him that you have experienced it. He is a special player, a great person to be around.”concludes the technician.
