Milwaukee gave up a former first-round pick

The Milwaukee Bucks season opener against the Washington Wizards is just around the corner as the club hopes to be one of the more competitive teams this year. After the first game of the regular season on the road, the franchise decided to make some roster moves.

As a result, Bucks officially waived the former first round pick Johnny Davis, according to Keith Smith of Spotrak and The Front Office Show. Milwaukee also waived Jeremy Tillmon on Friday.

“The Milwaukee Bucks waived Johnny Davis and Jeremiah Tilmon.”

Davis was the 10th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft by the Washington Wizards. However, in the three years he has been with the organization, Johnny Davis’ minutes have dwindled. By the 2024-25 campaign, he was averaging just 7.1 minutes per game despite the fact that Washington was one of the worst teams in the standings.

The Bucks signed veteran shooting guard to a 10-year deal in the offseason, which is a one-year, lower-salary deal that can be converted to a two-way contract or a regular NBA deal. However, it appears that Milwaukee is ready to part ways with Davis. In his three years in the league, Davis played in 112 games, averaging 3.5 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game while shooting 39.7% from the field and 27.3% from the field.

With Davis out of the picture, the Bucks look set to use a backcourt consisting of Kevin Porter Jr., Gary Trent Jr., Cole Anthony and AJ Green. Ryan Rollins and Gary Harris could also see some time at the linebacker positions during the 2025-26 season.
