Milwaukee trolls Shams after Giannis trade saga

The NBA trade deadline came and went, and Giannis Antetokounmpo is staying with the Milwaukee Bucks. After several weeks of ESPN Shams Charania Floating around with the idea that Antetokounmpo is on the verge of being dealt, the organization hit the popular NBA Insider with the perfect troll job.

Charania will play in the All-Star game and is on the team coached by Antetokounmpo. On Thursday, shortly after the deadline, the Bucks released a video of head coach Doc Rivers claiming the 31-year-old forward/center plans to put Shams Charania on the shopping block.

“Want an update Giannis?” Rivers asked. “I was just talking about, you know, he’s going to be coaching the Celebrity Game. . . . He informed me that he’s going to put Shams on the trade block today. And he’s just going to listen to offers.”

It’s a nice little nudge to a rumor-filled season, as the Bucks have been repeatedly tipped to trade Giannis Antetokounmpo. Instead, the soon-to-be 10-time All-Star will remain in Milwaukee through the end of the 2025-26 season.

The The Bucks aren’t the only ones mocking Shams Charani. NBA fans took to social media to roast the longtime NBA insider after nothing materialized at the trade deadline. With Antetokounmpo in the first season of his three-year contract worth just over $175 million (The third year is a player option), Antetokounmpo doesn’t appear to be going anywhere for now.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is currently dealing with a calf injury, and many expect him to return to action in late February or early March. So, it is unlikely that he will play in the All-Star game. However, when healthy, the 13-year veteran has remained as effective as ever. Through 30 games played, Antetokounmpo is averaging 28.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game while shooting 64.5% from the field and 39.5% from beyond the arc.
