Minnesota gets Quinn Hughes in stunning Canucks blockbuster

The The Minnesota Wild were not shortlisted who could be a trading partner with Vancouver Canucks for Quinn Hughes. However, in a move nobody expected it to come, the Wild acquired the former Norris Trophy winner in a deal allegedly including Marco Rossi, Liam Ohgren, Zeev Buyum and a first-round pick, according to Elliotte Friedman via X, formerly known as Twitter.

It’s a huge comeback for a Canucks team that was looking to continue to compete after changing its captain. Rossi and Buium are already established NHL players, while Ohgren is a former 2022 first-round pick struggling to establish himself with the Wild.

Rossi agrees with the Canucks’ desire to acquire a top-six center in the rematch, while Buium was their top prospect last season while playing at the University of Denver. He could step right in for Hughes and be a factor, while eventually becoming one of the best defenders in the league.

It’s become clear that Hughes is unhappy in Vancouver, which makes this deal a win-win. Hughes gets the fresh start he’s been looking for, while the Canucks will be better now and in the future.

Hughes immediately turns the Wild into a legitimate contender in the Western Conference. The team has recently become a big defensive player with the emergence of Jesper Wallstedt, and Hughes will help complement their offensive attack without losing many of the pieces that made their defense great. Buium contributed offensively, but struggled on the defensive end of the puck.

It’s franchise-changing for both teams, as expected when a player of Hughes’ stature is dealt.
