Mitchell Robinson was +40 against the Nets despite a crazy short drive

The New York Knicks showing no mercy to teams lately. The the latest to taste their wrath were the Brooklyn Nets, as Karl-Anthony Towns and company took them to the woodshed in New York’s 134-98 win at Madison Square Garden in New York on Sunday.
Towns dropped 28 points on 10-for-17 shooting from the field and grabbed 12 rebounds against Brooklyn, while Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby each had 19 points.
But none of the three can hold a candle to the big man’s ultimate plus-minus Mitchell Robinson. Even though he only scored eight points and only spent about 17 minutes running up and down the floor, he still managed to finish with a plus-40 plus-40.
“It feels great. I didn’t even know that,” Robinson said when asked about his think about plus-40 against the Nets (h/t Knicks Videos).
Knicks coach Mike Brown admitted that he is not exactly a champion in the aforementioned statistics, but still came away impressed with what Robinson has done in such a short time on the field.
“He played 16.5 minutes and was a +40. I’m not a big believer in (plus/minus), but to see that number in the short amount of time he’s played is just amazing,” Brown told reporters at the postgame press conference (h/t Knicks Videos).
While plus-minus isn’t what ultimately defines a player, it still speaks volumes about how someone fits with certain lineups on the floor.
In some ways, Robinson fits the profile of someone who could post such a high plus-minus rating. He doesn’t demand much of the ball, and in the rare moments when he gets it, he makes high-percentage shots. He was 4-for-4 from the field against the Nets. Robinson also had a big impact on defense as he acted as a major deterrent in the middle and at the rim, finishing with eight rebounds and two blocks. Meanwhile, the Nets looked like the right team for Robinson for such an outing, as Brooklyn entered the game with just eight wins to start the season.
The 27-year-old big man complemented Towns perfectly in the frontcourt by providing a great defensive presence to make things easier on that end for the offensive-minded Towns.
So far in the 2025-26 NBA regular seasonRobinson leads the Knicks with a a whopping 39.3 net rating.
