Monster Cooper Flagg’s dunk sent Dallas wild

The Dallas Mavericks a spark is needed after a one-sided loss to the Oklahoma City Thunderand Cooper Flag delivered it with force. From the first part, a rookie raised to the moment against the Houston Rockets, changing the tempo of the night and energizing the building. And when his dunk later put an exclamation point on the performance, what started as a tense Rockets matchup quickly turned into showcase for the rise of Cooper Flagg — such a night encourages Mavericks fans to lean forward and believe.
During the fourth quarter, with the Mavericks up 120–107, Brandon Williams fired a short pass from half court. In an instant, Flagg caught up to him, broke away from the three-point line and detonated at the rim. A monster dunk sent the American Airlines Center into a full of roar. In that moment, it felt like a statement, made in the air, hanging over a Rockets defense that could only turn and look up. In the end, Duke’s No. 1 pick finished with 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting, plus five rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks in 36 sharp minutes.

The Mavericks closed out a 122–109 win over the Rockets. They bounced back from a loss to the Thunder where Anthony Davis struggled with just two points. In contrast, tonight the response was cleaner. Sharper. More urgent. As a result, the Mavericks improved to 9–16 and still in 12th place in the West. The Rockets fell to 15–6 after entering the night with momentum after Kevin Durant celebrated his 31,000-point milestone.
meanwhile, Cooper Flagg’s progress is becoming impossible to ignore. In 24 games in the regular part of the season, he averaged 17.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists, and shot 47.5 percent from the field. Week by week, his instincts sharpen. And with each growing cheer in the arena, his confidence soars even higher.
If this is how Cooper Flagg lifts the Mavericks in December, what happens when the lights get brighter? What happens when the games start getting tough? Kyrie Irving is still out. But when he returns, could Flagg and the Mavericks flip the script and get back in the running?
