Naz Reid, Mo Gueie ejected from Timberwolves-Hawks after altercation

It was a pretty crazy night for the NBA, with tempers flare everywhere like the All-Star break loomed on the horizon. As something of an encore to the all-out brawl between the Detroit Pistons and Charlotte Hornets earlier that night, Minnesota Timberwolves and Atlanta Hawks got into it late in the former’s 138-116 win over the latter – with Naz Reid and Mo Gueie go head-to-head early in the fourth quarter.

Reid was the exception to Gueie’s physicality; just as the Timberwolves center was about to make a screen, the Hawks forwards appeared to push him. As expected, the big Timberwolves didn’t take kindly to this. He then confronted Gueie about it, and Gueie was unconcerned, leading to an argument between the two. Reid grabbed his fist Guy’s jersey, and it took about a minute before they were all able to separate them.

It wasn’t entirely clear if Reid actually threw a right hand as the commentators said. This fight wasn’t as violent as the Hornets-Pistons, which is for the best. Julius Randle did a good job of breaking up Reid’s header on Gueye’s jersey, preventing it from escalating further.

Both Reid and Gueie were ejected after the altercation. This did not significantly affect the outcome of the game, as the Timberwolves waltzed away to victory over Jalen Johnson without the Hawks after all.

A Monday night win was always going to be tough for the Hawks, as they were without their best player in Johnson and were on the road. As a result, the Timberwolves took the job pretty easy.

They led by 25 at halftime and never looked back. Seven different players scored in double figures for the Timberwolves, led by Anthony Edwards, who scored 30 points.
