Doug MoeDoug Moe died at his home in San Antonio at 87. was published by several American media.

A sharp figure on the NBA bench, the former ABA player-turned-coach left a lasting mark with his high-tempo basketball, offensive freedom and openness.

After passing through Italy and then the ABA in the late sixties, Doug Mo began his reconversion very early on the bench before introducing himself to the general public at the helm Spurs (1976-1980). He led George Gervin’s team to the conference finals in 1979 before being fired the following season.

But in Denver he became a legend. At the head Nuggets in the 1980s he implemented an uninhibited “run and gun” based on movement, risk-taking and attack above all, until winning the “Coach of the Year” trophy in 1988.

The longtime franchise record for bench wins (432), his legacy remains very important in Denver.

Beyond the numbers, Doug Moe was also a character: funny, whole and attached to his players. “When we talk about Doug Moe, we’re talking about one of the most authentic people on the planet”, explained Gregg Popovic. “On the course, off the course, on the golf green or in life, he was Doug Moe, every moment of the day. It was always fun, always honest, and few of us can say we are.”
