New England is accomplishing a feat not seen since 2015

The New England Patriots prove that the “Patriotic Way” is alive and developing Mike Vrabel. They even overcame it early gruesome injury to Will Campbell to beat the Cincinnati Bengals. But the 2025 Pats accomplished a feat not seen since Vrabel’s former teammate: Tom Brady.

Sunday marked their ninth straight win — beating the Cins 26-20 at Paycor Stadium. It was Brady who last led the Pats to a nine-game winning streak, doing so in 2015 when they started 10-0. That New England team fell in the AFC title game to eventual Super Bowl champion Denver.

But enthusiasm for New England is growing. Even the fans bombarded the quarterback Drake May with “MVP!” chants, recorded by ESPN Patriots insider Mike Reiss.

However, this was a game where the Pats had to dig deep.

Campbell has grown as a huge loss for the Patriots offense. But he wasn’t the only significant casualty in the trenches.

A standout guard and fellow rookie Jared Wilson was also taken. Wilson, who went in the third round of the April draft, got ankle disease who changed the lineup on the blind side.

Vrabel and the Pats suffered two more injuries: Safety Brenden Schooler (ankle) and defensive tackle Khiiris Tonga (chest) were also affected.

The defense strengthened in the end. Cincinnati mounted a 13-play drive and brought the ball to the New England 26-yard line. Joe Flacco couldn’t connect with tight end Mike Gesicki, however, on fourth-and-10 — leading to a turnover on downs.

May finished with 294 yards through the air and threw one touchdown to Hunter Henry, who finished with seven catches for 115 yards. Marcus Jones had a 33-yard pick-six to give NE an early 14-10 lead.

Jones starred on a defense that yielded five pass breakups and one sack. In addition, seven different defenders were seen to collect three solo stops or more.
