New Orleans not interested in Zion Williamson, Trey Murphy III trade
The New Orleans The Pelicans have the worst record in the league and you don’t have a first-round draft pick for next season, which is probably the worst shape you can be in as a franchise. At this point, the only way they can improve things is to start trading some of their players to get some assets in return.
With a month to go before the trade deadline, teams have shown interest in several players on the team, but it’s surprising that the Pelicans watching him stand with their core group, according to NBA insider Chris Haynes.
“Sources: New Orleans Pelicans disappoint the market in informing teams that Zion WilliamsonTrey Murphy, Herb Jones, Derrick Queen and Jeremiah Fears will remain with the organization after the Feb. 5 trade deadline,” Haynes wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Murphy was the one Pelicans player who drew the most attention before the deadline, and contending teams seem to like the idea of what he could do for their team. Murphy has played well this season, averaging about the same number of points as last season.
Williamson appears to be another player that is also on teams’ radars, but his injury history is one thing that might scare some. He’s only played 70+ games in his career, but when he’s on the floor, he’s hard to stop.
As for Queen and Fears, there’s no way the Pelicans plan to deal them at the deadline unless a super-tempting offer comes their way. The two were part of their draft class last draft, and have shown promise this season.
As of now, the Pelicans are likely awaiting the return of Dejunto Murray to see if it can change the trajectory of their season, while also dealing with other injuries here and there.
