New York is parting ways with multiple assistant coaches after a disappointing season

The New York Jets reached new depths of misery in a brutal 2025 season. The team finished 3-14, misses the playoffs for the 15th consecutive year – the longest active postseason drought in North American professional sports.
Aaron Glenn will remain at the helm despite a disastrous head coaching debut. But many of his assistant coaches won’t be back in 2026. Defensive coordinator Steve Wilkes was fired following a Week 15 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. On Friday, the Jets announced additional changes to the mass personnel turnover.
Quarterbacks coach Charles London, passing coordinator Scott Turner, defensive line coach Eric Washington, linebackers coach Aaron Curry and defensive assistants Roosevelt Williams and Alonso Escalante have all been fired, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.
Glenn shakes up coaching staff after nightmare Jets debut
As the Jets cleaned house after a historically awful season, Tanner Engstrand was spared. The No. 1 offensive coordinator is still on Glenn’s staff. However, it is unclear if he will continue as New York’s playmaker, according to KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson.
The Jets ranked 29th in total offense and scoring this season. That’s not a particularly surprising outcome, as the team has consistently produced one of the worst offenses in the league over the years.
However, New York’s defensive regression is more concerning. The Jets ranked No. 25 in overall defense in 2025. That’s a precipitous drop after three straight top-four finishes in the category. New York was 31st in scoring defense under Glenn.
The decline led to some remarkable new lows. The Jets became the first team to go an entire season without an interception. And New York set a new record for no goals, closing out the campaign with five straight losses by 23 or more points.
Glenn and the Jets are on the hunt for a new defensive coordinator. New York has interviewed eight candidates so far, including Wink Martindale for the role.
Now the team will look to fill several key staff positions, including the quarterbacks coach and passing coordinator.
