New York snaps Spurs’ 11-game winning streak with MSG victory

The New York Knicks put an end to San Antonio Spurs‘ 11-game winning streak on Sunday with a 114-89 win. Victory moves New York to 38-22 on the season6.5 games back of the Detroit Pistons for the best record in the East. SNI’s Ian Begley says the acquisition has been widely maligned was the key to victory.

“Michael Bridges’ team-high 25 points and five steals help NICK beat the Spurs, snapping SAS’ 11-game winning streak. We’re not exaggerating to call this one of NICK’s most impressive wins of the season; 6 players scored at least 10 points and the team’s defense was strong all afternoon,” Begleinoon reported.

While the Spurs won 11 straight games, Madison Square Garden was a house of horrors for them. They’ve lost six straight in Manhattan, with their last win coming in November 2019. That, of course, doesn’t include NBA Cup Finals, which the Knicks won in Las Vegas.

Bridges led the Knicks on both ends of the floor, with a team-high 25 points in addition to his defensive brilliance. Jalen Brunson he was right behind him with 24 points, while Karl-Anthony Towns and Josh Hart had double-doubles. Defensively, Victor Wembanyama scored 25 points on 1-of-7 three-point shooting.

The Knicks have now won four of their last five games, keeping pace with the top teams in the Eastern Conference. But there are tough games ahead, and the trip to Toronto is off to a brutal start. The Oklahoma City Thunder, Denver Nuggets and both Los Angeles clubs are slated for the next five games.

The Knicks are looking for their fourth straight playoff berth in the Jalen Brunson era. New coach Mike Brown has had some ups and downs this season, but the big win should start March off on the right foot.
