Nick Harrison’s arrangement to protect him from angry fans says it all
A lot can really change in just a year. Around this time in 2024 Dallas Mavericks had high hopes despite a slightly slow start to the season. They were returning most of a 2023-24 team that reached the NBA Finals, and with perennial All-NBA first-teamer Luka Doncic leading the way, a deep postseason run appeared to be in the cards for the Mavs. But then general manager Niko Harrison decided that Doncic was not a star he wanted to build a team around him.
now, in the midst of the Mavericks’ poor playHarrison caught fire. According to reports, he is on the hot seat and could soon lose his job if the Mavs don’t turn things around soon enough. This only adds to the anger he receives from fans who blame him for the team’s downfall.
And now, the Mavericks are resorting to some pretty drastic measures just to do so they protect their CEO from further fan fury.
“Portable stairs roll each game through a tunnel between both benches and near the new seating location that allow Harrison to exit at any time without having to go through the audience sections. That’s the seating configuration used for hockey games at the American Airlines Center and is now employed by the Mavericks, not an insider this season,” Mar Stein.

Harrison decided to trade Doncic away to the Los Angeles Lakers for a package consisting of Anthony Davis, Max Christie and a 2029 first-round pick in the mask keeping an eye on Doncic’s long-term health as well as his poor defense.
Now, the Mavericks are struggling to compete, and if it weren’t for some lottery luck that landed them Cooper Flagg, they’d be in such a tough position long-term — especially amid Davis’ injury.
They can still turn things around once Flagg becomes even bigger and if they can add another blue-chip prospect with what looks like another high lottery pick. But the Mavericks didn’t have to go through all this at all if they had just kept Doncic in the first place.
