Nick Nurse blames the worst loss of the season on the Zombie Nuggets

On Monday night, The Philadelphia 76ers suffered their most embarrassing loss of the season with a 125-124 overtime loss hands of the Denver Nuggetswho played in this game without all five starters, including the recently injured Nikola Jokić. The 76ers had strong games from both Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey in this game, but the defense didn’t play well throughout the game and the offense fell apart in overtime, scoring just four points in overtime.
After the game, the head coach Nick Nurse became 100% real to what he felt went wrong in the loss.
“It was a tough shooting percentage game. We let them feel really good early and it carried over almost the entire game,” Nurse said, per PhillyVoice’s Adam Aronson on X, formerly Twitter.
Indeed, the Nuggets enjoyed hot shooting from several unsung members of their bench, including Jalen Pickett, who scored 29 points on the night, and Peyton Watson, who poured in 24.
The 76ers have been a tough team to figure out this season. At times, the team has looked like a legitimate contender in the Eastern Conference, having beaten the New York Knicks on the road on two separate occasions in the past few weeks. The team also got continued strong play from rookie VJ Edgecombe, who joined Tirese Makey to form one of the most electric backcourts anywhere in the NBA.
However, the 76ers have also been mired in inconsistency, with Joel Embiid constantly in and out of the game due to injury, and the team has suffered some truly baffling losses so far this season, including Monday’s against the Nuggets.
Either way, the 76ers take to the floor Wednesday night at home against the lowly Washington Wizards.
