Nick Sirianni breaks controversial 4th down call
The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Green Bay Packers in a defensive duel Monday Night Football. Packers fans are calling Matt LaFleur’s job after the team went scoreless and fell to 5-3-1 on the season.
If the Packers were able to score on their final possession, Nick Sirianni he would be in a warm place. The Eagles coach made a bizarre decision on 4th down with 33 seconds remaining. Instead of trying to punt Green Bay deep into its own territory, Sirianni ran a deep punt on 4th and 6. After the game, he defended the call.
“I’m on that decision,” Siriani said, per 94VIP.com’s Elliott Shorr-Parks. “We’re up by three and I wish I was a little closer to kicking a field goal. … It was into the wind on that one. I knew the shot was going to have to be a little bit lower on that particular one. I have a lot of faith in our offense. And it didn’t work out in this one. We just didn’t get it.”

Eagles win despite rough offensive play at MNF

The Eagles had a chance to ice the game after recovering a Josh Jacobs fumble with 1:26 remaining. But the offense could only gain four yards and chewed up 57 seconds. Siriani was faced with a decision on 4th-and-6 from the Packers’ 35-yard line with 33 seconds left.
The coach explained to the reporters that a field goal would only increase the Eagles’ difference by six points. And that would be a long field goal. So he decided to go for it. “We would have finished the game if we had gotten that. We have a lot of faith in our guys to do it.”
However, Siriani seems to have forgotten that punting is an option. Instead, he got Jalen Hurts to shoot deep to AJ Brown down the left sideline. It was just Brown’s third target of the game.
The pass fell incomplete and the Packers took over at the 35. But Green Bay could only set up a 64-yard field goal to Brandon McManus, which missed badly. And the Eagles kept their third consecutive victory.
