Nikola Jokic broke Steph Curry’s record with a historic triple-double in a victory over the Denver Nuggets
Nikola Jokic had a triple-double of 56 points and broke the record set by Steph Curry as the Denver Nuggets beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 142-138 on Christmas Day.
The Serbian scored 56 points, recorded 16 rebounds and 15 assists – becoming the first player in NBA history to score at least 55 points, 15 rebounds and 15 assists in a triple-double.
Three-time MVP Jokic scored 18 of his 56 points in overtime, breaking Curry’s 2016 record of 17 overtime points.
The Timberwolves took the Denver game into overtime after coming back from a 15-point deficit in the final five minutes of the game.
Anthony Edwards led the Timberwolves with 44 points, including a game-tying 3-pointer that sent the game into overtime.
But the 24-year-old was ejected in overtime for a foul fight as the Nuggets claimed victory.
The Nuggets are third in the Western Conference, and the Timberwolves are fifth.
