Nikola Jokic goes full Peaky Blinders after smashing the Suns

Nikola Jokic channels Peaky Blinders again, following Denver Nuggets beat the Phoenix Suns on Saturday (October 25), 133-111.

Jokic scored 14 points, 14 rebounds, 15 assists and 3 steals last night in the first match on the home court of the Nuggets. Journalists asked if Jović felt relieved when Jonas Valančunas entered the field.

“I never relax and breathe easy, my friend… Thomas Shelby said there is no rest in this world for me,” Jokic told reporters with a smile. referencing the main character from Peaky Blinders.

This is not the first time that Jokić refers to the British drama. In 2023, Jokic reached a home game against the Minnesota Timberwolves in full Peaky Blinders gear. He wore a long black wool coat, a white turtleneck, black pants with matching shoes, and of course, Thomas Shelby’s signature hat.

This is Valanciunas’ first season with the Nuggets, serving as Jovic’s backup, and he impressively finished 10 shots in 13 minutes last night. Valanciunas reflected on having “the hardest job in the world.”

“When I was in Denver, I kept asking myself why I didn’t have a chance,” he said. “For any guy who is a backup for Jokic, it’s probably the hardest job in the world. You play 10 minutes and whatever you do, it’s not good enough compared to when Jokic does it. That was the hardest part. After that I worked on my mental strength and everything got better.”

The Nuggets next game is tomorrow (October 27) against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
