Nikola Jokić is close to the record that took Karim 1,560 games

Nikola Jokic continues to rewrite the NBA record books at a pace that seems truly illegal. During Denver Nuggets‘ hard-fought 128-125 win over the Utah Jazz on Monday night, the Serbian center officially tied the legendary Kareem Abdul-Jabbarand he did it in almost half the time.
Entering the competition at the Delta Center, Jokić sat out only one game record tying for the most games with at least 20 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists in NBA history. After a hard 36 minutes on the floor, he left with exactly 22 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. That performance marks his 322nd career game 20/10/5, tying him with the captaincy.
The most astonishing part of this achievement is not only the production, but also the efficiency. It took Kareem Abdul-Jabbar 1,560 games to set that bar. Jokić reached the same peak in only 792 games. Doc Jamal Murray stole the headlines in a huge 45-point outburst night, including eight 3-pointers and two free throws, Jokic’s steady hand kept the Nuggets afloat as they fended off a late Jazz rally.
It was not easy for Utah, despite a depleted roster. Keyonte George exploded for 36 points and nearly forced overtime, but Jokic kept his composure under pressure. Even with five fouls late in the fourth quarter, he was able to secure the board and hit two free throws with six seconds left to clinch the win.
Denver has relied heavily on its superstar this season, and Jokic did not disappoint. Currently leading the league in rebounds and assists, looks a bit like favorite for another MVP trophy. With the record now tied, all eyes are on Thursday’s matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers. If history is anything to go by, Jokic won’t be tied for long.
