Nikola Jokic once again lands in the exclusive Wilt Chamberlain club with an epic night

The Denver Nuggets humming, just as everyone expected, and Nikola Jokić is good. They have now won five straight games, and Jokic has once again played at an MVP level. Jokic could literally miss on Tuesday night. He finished with 35 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists, making 16 of his 19 shots tonight in Denver’s 122-108 win over the Sacramento Kings.

In the past five games, all of which have been Nuggets wins, Jokic was a dominant player for statistics who is as automatic off the court as anyone in the NBA. He averaged 32 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists on 72 percent shooting during that span, which is just incredible.

But of course, no one is as adept at filling out a stat sheet as Wilt Chamberlain. As pointed out by OptaSTATS on X (formerly Twitter), “ just another player in NBA history to average a triple-double of 30 points on 70 percent shooting over a 5-game span” was Chamberlain, who accomplished it in March 1968.

The Kings were brazen in their strategy to let Jokic beat them. And Jokic did exactly that. There are two dominant schools of thought when it comes to the Nuggets; slow down Jokic and make the secondary beat you, or do the opposite and focus on stopping role players from popping up, channeling all energy into stopping the three-time MVP.

But Jokic made the Kings’ centers look like children. Domantas Sabonis fouled out and Drew Eubanks was even forced into a late offensive foul that you just can’t fall for when you’re guarding the Nuggets star.

Jokić is still a historical smugglerand like Chamberlain, he will be remembered long after his NBA career is over.

The Nuggets have fallen into some banana peels this season; they lost to the Golden State Warriors in overtime and also lost to the Portland Trail Blazers on a late-game blowout in NBA Cup action.

But this Nuggets team has shrugged off those setbacks and is now fully on its way. And the scary part about this is that they could get better, especially when someone like Cam Johnson hasn’t been good yet this season.
