Norman Powell reflected on ‘week into Sunday’ with latest groin injury
As Miami Heat star Norman Powell left Thursday’s loss over the Philadelphia 76ers, 124-117, the team received a key injury notice to the All-Star guard. While it is The Heat Star is dealing with a nagging groin injuryThe MRI revealed the severity of the problem, and also gave him an indication of how much time he will miss.
Powell will be ruled out for Saturday afternoon’s game against the Houston Rockets, with MRI shows she has a grade 1 strainas the team will consider him “seven on Sunday”. The week-to-week designation is key compared to the “daily” as other players have been considered in the past.
Looking at just this upcoming week, after Saturday’s game, Miami will have four games with Powell at risk of missing all of them with a groin strain. Powell played just 10 minutes of Thursday’s loss, leaving with a groin injury, having even entered the game as a question mark with the problem before being upgraded to “available.”
“We will have to judge that when we get back to Miami,” the Miami head coach Erik Spoelstra he said after the loss, via a video from the team’s YouTube page. “It’s not like he couldn’t (play), it was that one slide against (Tyreese) Maxey, and he extended it too much. So that’s the same one he’s been dealing with, and we’ll just have to see what it is.”
The warmth Tyler Herro likely to fill the void left by Norman Powell

Powell was Miami’s leading scorer with 22.5 points on 47.3 percent shooting from the field and 39 percent from three-point range, leading to the 32-year-old becoming a first-time All-Star. He filled in as the main offensive lineman for most of the season, and Tyler Hero missed significant time.
Now the roles will be reversed, as while Herro has come off the bench since returning from a rib injury, it could be imagined that he is thrust into the starting line-up, although the team’s ongoing injury problems have been frustrating.
“It’s obviously very difficult,” Herro said. “We just want to stay healthy, keep the guys healthy, pray for Norm. I hope he’s OK.”
It remains to be seen how long Powell misses the heat.
