Norman Powell’s groin injury gets Erik Spoelstra’s “what it is.”

As it is The Miami Heat’s frustrations mounted after another disappointing loss on thursday night to the philadelphia 76ers, 124-117, the outing also marked the absence of a key player. Heat star Norman Powell would leave the 76ers game due to a groin injury, with the head coach Erik Spoelstra giving some insight into the matter.

Powell played just 10 minutes, where he scored just three points with three rebounds and two assists, as he led the team with 22.5 points per game, his presence was absent. He entered the game on the injury report with “right groin soreness,” where he was questionable for the contest, though he was later made available.

With Miami now at home for three games, all eyes will be on his health as Spoelstra talked about how “excessive” injury.

“We’ll have to evaluate that when we get back to Miami,” Spoelstra said, according to The Miami Herald. “It’s not like he couldn’t (play) … he extended it too much. So it’s the same one he’s been dealing with, and we’ll just have to see what it is.”

Powell passed all protocols and tests to play Thursday, as the groin injury “accumulated over time,” the star said at the morning game.

With Heat loss for the 76ersthe team has 22 games left to turn the season around and make a run to avoid the playoffs, and Powell is key to getting the offense to an exceptional level. Although Tyler Herro returned, posting 25 points and seven assists off the bench, Powell was vital to the team as he dealt with back injuries along with a groin injury.

Powell would say the injuries were “really frustrating”, although he acknowledged that knocks and bruises happen to many players, expressing that he has a “very high pain tolerance”.

It remains to be seen what Powell’s status will be for Miami’s next game on Saturday against the Houston Rockets.
