Nothing is going well between Ja Morant and Tuomas Iisal in Memphis
This duel between Lakers and the Grizzlies was marked an incredible demonstration of Luka Dončićthe author of 44 points, but also with a spooky performance I Morant. The Memphis leader left the floor with just 8 points, 3/14 shooting including a terrible 0/6 from 3-point range, in just over 30 minutes of play.
Above the numbers, the attitude and visual impression left by the two-time All-Star are striking. Ja Morant did not score any points after the break. What’s worse, after the last entry into the game, five minutes from the end, he didn’t take a single shot.
Although its timing might be surprising, it does not appear to be the result of an individual sanction. Since the start of the season, Tuomas Iisalo and his staff have actually established a generally balanced rotation: ten players between 15 and 28 minutes per game, with Ja Morant at the top of the hierarchy.
But after the match, the leader did not hide his anger, repeating three times: “Ask the coaches…”
“Go ask him, he has a lot to say”
“Go ask him, he has a lot to say” he said again, before inviting reporters to question the coaches to find out why he seemed so demotivated on the field.
“According to them, the solution would probably be to not make me play, honestly” finally answered what the Grizzlies could do to win this game. “That was the message, basically. No worries.”
Another symbol that reflects the leader’s frustration, his attitude during the time out of this lost match against the Lakers. Ja Morant clearly stood away from his team, hands on hips as Tuomas Iisalo gave instructions.
The Memphis coach has not yet had a chance to react to his star’s exit as he was at a press conference when Ja Morant answered questions in the locker room. But something apparently happened at halftime: certain personnel remarks that the All-Star would take very poorly?
