Why the Nuggets could cover the spread/win

The Denver Nuggets have made progress in the last few games and we are currently seeing generational growth from Nikola Jokic. Until the last game against Minnesota, Jokic had recorded five straight triple-doubles, joining Oscar Robertson and Russell Westbrook as the only players to record 20+ triple-doubles in three or more seasons. He certainly plays like the best basketball player on the planet and will always give the Nuggets a great chance to contend for a title when he is on the floor.

With Jokic playing the way he is, his teammates have an easier job of finding openings in the defense and turning into great looks. Aaron Gordon returning from injury was a clear boost from them as Michael Porter Jr. is able to play the three and increase their length defensively. Christian Brown has also been one of their catalysts in making rushing plays and staying tough on the defensive perimeter as this team has all the depth they need to produce in every facet of the game.

Why the Bulls could cover the spread/win

The Chicago Bulls are down again after a decent winning streak. They were able to keep their last game against the 76ers close in the final minutes, where they couldn’t find the clutch and couldn’t stop Tyrese Maxey’s last-ditch effort for the win. The Bulls have not been the best defensive team by any means and while they are good at rebounding, they have too many communication breakdowns and allow easy shots in the paint. Nikola Vucevic will need to have a much more dominant effort if he wants any chance of an upset here.

This team has really benefited from both Josh Giddei and Lonzo Ball being active at point guard this season. Giddei has been the most impressive moderator on this team and is doing a fantastic job contributing to the glass with 7.5 RPG. Lonzo Ball is averaging a cool 3.6 APG, but his biggest strength comes from being the general on the floor and dictating the tempo of the offense. It’s all about the flow of the game for the Bulls and when they can find their stride, they are able to surprise better teams like the Nuggets.

Final Nuggets-Bulls Prediction and selection

The Chicago Bulls are 13-19 when listed as an underdog and are 10-13 ATS when playing at home. The Denver Nuggets have a much better record at 23-21 ATS this season and a 12-11 ATS record on the road. The Nuggets also have a much bigger and longer lineup opposite the Bulls, so we should see them lead this contest in points and rebounds.

However, Josh Giddei and Zach LaVine both have a favorable matchup offensively, so the Bulls may have a chance to keep this game close and both can score the ball at a high level. However, I believe that the mismatch between Nikola Jokic and Nikola Vucevic will be the deciding factor in this game, as Jokic will flirt with another triple-double.

For our final prediction, let’s play the Denver Nuggets to comfortably cover this road performance.

Nuggets-Bulls final forecast and pick: Denver Nuggets -9 (-110)
