OKC’s Chet Holmgren is questionable for Monday’s game against the Mavericks

After Oklahoma City Thunder forward Chet Holmgren has recovered from a dislocated thumb in a 117-100 win against the Atlanta Hawks, he is listed as questionable for Monday’s matchup against Dallas Mavericks. Holmgren, who had been dealing with lower back soreness during the start of the regular season, returned in the second half of Saturday’s win against the Hawks.

However, he did not sit during the postgame media availability, leading some to believe that Holmgren’s back injury is truly bothering him, as it is still listed as suspicious for the Thunder vs. Mavericks game with back pain, not a sprained thumb.

Holmgren finished with 31 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including 6-of-8 from deep, 9-for-10 from the free throw line, 11 rebounds, three steals and one block against the Hawks. Holmgren tied a career high in three-pointers while his impressive start to the 2025-26 campaign continues amid the Thunder’s perfect 3-0 start.

Holmgren is averaging 24.7 points on 56.1% shooting, including 42.1% from deep, 10.0 rebounds and 1.7 steals in three games.

Thunder forward Chet Holmgren hit a career-high six 3-pointers in a 17-point win over the Hawks on Saturday as the defending champions remained undefeated to open the regular season. After Saturday’s win, Holmgren reflected on his impressive shooting game, which got him off to a fast start, finding his offensive rhythm early en route to a 31-point performance.

After the win, Holmgren explained what led up to it his effective shooting behind the arch.

“When you see the ball go in a few times, you definitely play a lot more relaxed and you definitely look for the next opportunity to shoot,” Holmgren said. “But I’m not a big believer in warmup checks in terms of a bad shot because you hit par. I’m still looking for the right play, looking for good shots, and throughout the game I felt like I did a good job of believing that, and after the first couple went in, I was able to find more.”

Three games into the regular season, Holmgren is 8-for-19 (42.1%) from deep while averaging a double-double for the lowly Thunder, starting the regular season without All-Stars Jaylen Williams, Isaiah Joe and others.
