Once again, Mavericks by jazz master Cooper Flagg
During the first confrontation between the Jazz and the Mavericks, Cooper Flagg set his career high with 42 points despite the Dallas loss. For this second duel between the two teams, it is Max Christie who is responsible for opening the score. But Cooper Flagg (26 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists) showed up quickly as he scored 7 of the Texans’ first 13 points.
On the jazz side, Cody Williams shows off his athleticism and completes three alley-oops and allows Utah to take control of the game. The Salt Lake City franchise is gradually closing the gap thanks to Keionte George who gets the best Klay Thompson (23 points, shooting 7/13, from distance 6/11) to score 2+1. On the next possession, the former Warriors lose the ball and Kyle Filipowski takes responsibility for finishing the counter attack (27-17).
The Jazz still lead by five points after twelve minutes of play and if the second act begins with Klay Thompson’s game-winning shot, the two teams experience skill difficulties and accumulate 1/18 shooting through the first four minutes of this second quarter. In addition, Dallas multiplies turnovers, and the Jazz use it to increase a new gap (53-39).
However, the Texans came back with a 7-0 lead and before halftime, Anthony Davis (21 points, 11 rebounds) scores “and one” to bring his team to one possession (58-55). After going to the locker room, Find Marshall scored the winning basket, and Cooper Flagg found Max Christie behind the arc and returned the advantage to the guests (61-60).
The final deciding race
A few minutes later, Anthony Davies stood out with a counter attack on Kyle Anderson before knocking in the next counter attack. Cooper Flag follows him as he concludes the “alley-oop” he sent Ryan Nembhardt. Before the start of the last act, Dallas has only one point advantage, and Klay Thompson opens the fourth quarter with the winning shot (92-88).
If the two teams traded shots for a few minutes, the Jazz managed to go 12-0 in the process Lauri Markkanen (33 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists) overtook Anthony Davis and returned the advantage to his team. A possession where the Dallas pivot injured his hand and was forced to leave his teammates with just two minutes remaining. If the Mavs trail by six points, Klay Thompson is credited with cutting the deficit in half with another long-range basket. However, Keyonte George beat Cooper Flagg to give the Jazz a two-possession lead again.
Despite Naji Marshall’s last-second 3-pointer, Utah won 116-114 to snap a five-game losing streak.
WHAT TO REMEMBER
– Klay Thompson reaches 900 games. This match marked Klay Thompson’s 900th career game and he shined on the occasion. The winger matched his best point total of the season with 23 points and a solid 6/11 on 3-pointers and despite a rocky start where he was exposed defensively, he made important shots throughout the game to keep Dallas in the game, even if it wasn’t enough.
– The final decisive reinforcement. While Dallas leads by seven points with five minutes left. Keyonte George hits the first 3-point shot. Immediately after, Cooper Flagg fired a long-range arrow at the very end of the possession that found its target. Except we see in slow motion that this shot is taken after 24 seconds have passed and therefore doesn’t count. Since then, Utah has developed. Lauri Markkanen makes three straight baskets to give his team the lead Bruce Sensabaugh widens the gap with a long shot. In almost four minutes, the Jazz went on a 12-0 run to open the victory.
– Cooper Flagg shines again against the Jazz. In the first meeting between these two teams, Cooper Flagg scored 42 points, his best total of the season. For this second duel, he came close to a triple-double with 26 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists. Unfortunately, his efforts weren’t rewarded at the end of the game, like this tough 3-point shot that ended up not counting. And in the final moments, he failed to contain Keyonte George to avoid defeat for his team.
