Patrick Williams considered an intriguing trade fit for the Suns

Much like several of his teammates at Chicago Bulls, Patrick Williams had to face a double whammy. Overcoming the injuries that held him back occasionally, as well rumors to be traded.

In June 2024, Williams signed a five-year, $90 million contract extension that includes a player option for the 2028-2029 season. However, Williams has dealt with injuries and inconsistency, leading to criticism that he was overpaid. Thus, opening the door for a potential trade.

One of the teams should be a good choice for him, it’s the Phoenix Suns, according to Brett Siegel of the ClutchPoints/Clutch Scoops podcast.

“I I think Patrick Williams is a really intriguing player to talk to,Siegel said. It’s obvious the Bulls want to move his contract somewhere. He is still under contract for three more years past this season. But I think there it is there will be some teams, right? it is now or if it is off season, they are I’ll look at him as a guy worth taking a chance on because it is it’s rare to find wings with his kind of athleticism that has a seven-foot wingspan. The problem is that he is alone it is not was healthy enough in Chicago.”

If that were to happen, Williams would likely play behind Dillon Brooks on the wing. Additionally, he could use his youth to help the Suns grow.

“This it is not to say this team is interested in him, but just for example, I think Phoenix would be an interesting place for Patrick Williams because he could sit behind Dillon Brooks, he could learn from him on the wing. He can add to their young group that they are building, their young core with length. I think so it is really interesting scenario.”

The Bulls would trade Patrick Williams for obvious reasons.

Through 30 games, Williams is averaging 6.5 points per game and 2.9 rebounds. However, there is a strong sense of disappointment in him that he did not live up to expectations. In 2020, he was the 4th pick in the NBA draft coming out of Florida State.

As a striker, he possesses tremendous athleticism and versatility. However, he sustained injuries such as a dislocated wrist in 2021 that required surgery. All in all, putting him in a precarious position to trade.

But the Bulls would have trouble trading if they did don’t add blueprints for potential business. Additionally, other teams might be reluctant to take a chance on him due to his vulnerability and high salary.
