Paul George was suspended 25 games for violating the drug policy

The NBA made the announcement on Saturday Philadelphia 76ers wing Paul George will be suspended for 25 games for league violation drug program, according to ClutchPoint’s Brett Siegel. His suspension will begin immediately as the 76ers are at home to face the New Orleans Pelicans.
Following the NBA’s official announcement that Paul George has been suspended due to the league’s anti-drug policy, the 76ers wing issued a statement via ESPN’s Shams Charan explaining the situation and taking responsibility for his actions.
“Over the last few years, I have discussed the importance of mental health, and while recently seeking treatment for my own problem, I made the mistake of taking the wrong medication,” George wrote. “I take full responsibility for my actions and apologize to the Sixers organization, my teammates and Philadelphia fans for my poor decisions during this process.”
“I’m focused on using this time to make sure my mind and body are in the best shape to help the team when I return.”
Looking ahead to the 76ers’ upcoming schedule, the 25-game suspension would allow George to likely return around March 25 when the 76ers host the Chicago Bulls. That would give the team just under a month to reintegrate George is back in the lineup ahead of a potential playoff push.
The 76ers are currently in 6th place in the Eastern Conference standings at 26-21. They are just one game ahead of the No. 7 Orlando Magic who are also riding a two-game winning streak.
George is in his second season with the 76ers after signing as a free agent in the 2024 offseason. He returned this year after sitting out last season due to injury. He has appeared in a total of 27 games so far, with just over 30 minutes per game. He averaged 16.0 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 42.4 percent from the field, 38.2 percent from the 3-point line and 85.5 percent from the free throw line.
