Paul Reid becomes the voice of reason after the wild scene against the hornets

Things certainly got out of hand during the third quarter A fierce battle of the Detroit Pistons against the Charlotte Hornets. With about seven minutes to go, Moussa Diabate and Jalen Duren got into an argument, with the former wanting to tackle the Pistons big man. Miles Bridges then escalated matters, as he delivered a blow to Duren himself. This didn’t work with Isaiah Stewart, who came off the bench to give Bridges his own receipt.

All four players mentioned were kicked out after a scrimmage, and in the end, the Pistons ended the Hornets’ nine-game winning streak, 110-104. With Duren and Stewart getting sent off early in the locker room, Detroit had to rely on a third center Paul Reed to finish the game.

Reed had 12 points, three rebounds, two steals and one block in 18 minutes of play, helping the Pistons to a hard-fought victory. After the game, he acknowledged how necessary it was for every Piston to have Duren’s back. But not everyone is free to lose their cool, and Detroit, to its credit, kept calm after the fight.

“I’m pretty sure everybody wanted to help (Duren), even the guys on the bench. We got each other’s back 100,000%. We’ve got to play basketball, we’ve got to win games, so we can’t all just go out,” Reed said in his postgame interview.

An all-out brawl like the one the Pistons and Hornets had on Monday can certainly change the course of a game. At the time of the fight, the Pistons were leading by eight.

With the Hornets taking out the Pistons’ top two centers, it could have paved the way for a comeback win. Instead, Detroit showed the poise of a winning team and held on for the win.
