We’re back with another NBA betting prediction and pick as we look at this next meeting between the Southwest Division rivals. The New Orleans Pelicans (12-32) will take over Memphis Grizzlies (29-15) As the two sides continue their respective seasons. It’s time to continue our NBA odds series with Pelican-Grizzly Prediction and Selection.

The New Orleans Pelicans were recently defeated by the Utah Jazz 123-119, marking a four-game winning streak for the first time this season. After their meeting with Milwaukee was postponed, they will be looking for their first win of the season against this Memphis Grizzlies squad as wide receivers.

The Memphis Grizzlies are currently third in the Western Conference, having recently been edged by Charlotte 132-120. They are also riding a four-game winning streak as they have gone 6-4 over their last 10 and remain in the standings overall. They will look to go undefeated against New Orleans on the season.

The New Orleans Pelicans will once again be without Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram, potentially married to any clouded this team has been set in the last two weeks. Williamson scored 24 points and added 14 rebounds in a recent win over the Jazz, so it’s clear that his impact is what makes this team tick. Without Brandon Ingram available as a reliable scorer, the Pelicans are struggling to keep up and have lost themselves in the Western Conference shuffle.

For the Pelicans to be successful any time soon, they will need players like Trey Murphy to step up and continue to be the scoring output of this team. He and CJ McCollum both average around 22 ppg with McCollum recently exploding for 45 points against the Jazz. Both players are very capable of similar performances and while their superstars remain, it will still take the heroic efforts of Murphy and McCollum to keep this team together.

Why the Grizzlies were able to cover the spread / win

The Memphis Grizzlies have gone in the exact opposite direction as they once again challenge for the 1 seed in the Western Conference. You’re also riding a four-game winning streak, winning three of those games by double digits. While it’s easy to credit Ja Morant with most of their success, the Grizzlies have won with a team effort more often than we’ve seen in the last three years. Last game, Desmond Bane led with 24 points, Jaren Jackson led the previous game with 24, and SANTI ALDAMA led the one before that with 29.

As it stands, the Memphis Grizzlies own the NBA’s highest scoring offense at 123.3 ppg. They are one of the league’s most dangerous teams in transition thanks to Ja Morant and I expect him to take on another facilitating role during this game. He is averaging 7.7 APG, higher than his career mark, and he has been able to stay healthy and present for his team. The Grizzlies also have rookie year prospect Zach Edey, who is a noticeable presence in the paint whenever Jaren Jackson Jr. He is resting on the bench.

Final Pelicans-Grizzlies Prediction and Picks

The Grizzlies have owned this series, winning their two meetings by a combined 19 points. Jaren Jackson Jr. I was the leading scorer for the Grizzlies during both of those games, but so were CJ McCollum and Trey Murphy, who claimed games in both cases. No doubt the Pelicans will need to see another big effort from both tight ends with Igram and Williamson continuing to miss time.

Still, this series has been competitive despite the final scores and the Pelicans have gone 5-1 over the last six games. On the other hand, the Grizzlies are one of the best coverage teams in the league at 29-15 with a 15-7 record in their home building. New Orleans is just 19-25 on the season and they have gone just 4-16 on the road.

While we could see a close game early, I think the injuries are just too much for the Pelicans at the moment and while they have had some success against the Utah Jazz lately, they will be in charge of a much better team in the Grizzlies. Let’s roll with Memphis to cover their home spread.
