Philly is reuniting with a former lottery pick

The The Philadelphia 76ers are in a good place heading into the second half of the season, they still have a chance to make up a spot in the Eastern Conference. The team played well, but there isn’t too much depth. That’s what the 76ers did recently, bringing back a familiar face on the flip, according to NBA insider Mark Stein.
“Cam Payne is signing a contract until the end of the season to join the 76ers, league sources say. It was reported in Europe that the veteran point guard is securing a buyout from Partizan Belgrade, Serbia, to return to the NBA,” Stein wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Payne played with the 76ers during the 2023-24 season, appearing in 31 games and averaging 9.3 points per game. He was a key player on their bench, and he continued to show that after that year with the New York Knicks.
Payne was able to keep his game sharp playing overseas, and should make some sort of impact with the 76ers again. When Tyrese McKay goes to the bench, he can come in for as many minutes as he needs and get the offense going as well as his own.
The 76ers have other guards that Payne will compete with for minutes, such as VJ Edgecombe and Quentin Grimes. They also traded for Jared McCain, which will give Payne a chance to fill the minutes he had. It will be interesting to see what role he plays when he comes into the team, but overall, it’s good to have another back in the rotation.
Right now, the 76ers are trying to overcome much of the rest of the season Paul George, as he was suspended for 25 games.
