PJ Washington reveals how he found out Nico Harrison fired

The Dallas Mavericks finally did the inevitable when the organization decided to fire CEO Nick Harrison this week. Harrison became extremely unpopular with Mavericks fans after the controversial trade of Luka Doncic last season, and things only got worse after a poor start to the season. Before the Mavericks’ game against the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday, the team made the rare decision to have players speak in a pregame press conference, and PJ Washington found out how he found out that Nico Harrison has been fired, according to Noah Weber of The Smoking Cuban.

“Twitter,” Washington said. “We found out like everyone else. Plus, Washington found out.” he extended his hand Nick Harrison after learning he was fired, according to Ron Harrod Jr. of DLLS Mavs.

“Obviously I thank Nick for what he’s done for me,” Washington said. “He believed in this group, as did I. I just wanted to send him a message, thank him and go about my business.”

After the Doncic trade, Mavericks fans often went down, chanting ‘Fire Nico’ during home games, a trend that continued this season with some fans going so far as to chant as Mavericks players shot free throws. Some in the organization, including the head coach Jason Kidd thinks the chants are disrespectful.

Entering Wednesday’s game against the Suns, the Mavericks were 3-8 and in last place in the Western Conference standings. But amid the Mavericks’ struggles came injuries to key players such as Anthony Davis, Derek Lively II and Dante Exum. The team is also awaiting the return of Kyrie Irving, who is recovering from an ACL injury.
