Predators’ Steven Stamkos discusses NI’s domestic struggles

The New York Rangers host the Nashville Predators at Madison Square Garden on Monday night. As Nashville’s struggles continue, this should be a win for New York, which has playoff aspirations. But The Rangers have been disastrous at MSG this year, going 0-6-1 and only six goals scored. Predators ahead Steven Stamkos Johnny Lazerus of the Daily FaceOff asked him about New York fight at home.
I asked #Smashville Steven Stamkos on the feeling of coming to MSG as a road opponent and what he thinks about #NIR struggles at home and his goal scoring experience in the rut:
“I think what happened here – it’s just a flash. It’s not sustainable, is it?” pic.twitter.com/a9vKN6A5OD

“I think what’s happened here is just a blip. It’s not sustainable, is it? I mean, you look at the quality of the squad they have, you look at the pieces they have from the goalie, to the defense, to the forwards, I mean, it’s just not going to continue. Sometimes when you get into a rut like that as a team or as an individual, it snowballs a bit.”
The Rangers were shut out by Ilya Sorokin and the New York Islanders on Saturday night, falling 5-0 to their division rivals. It was the fifth time they have been shut out this season, and all of them have come on home ice. The Predators haven’t been great this season, but Juuse Saros is back this season. He’s getting ready for another scary night in Manhattan.
Despite their struggles at home, the Rangers are in the hunt for the Eastern Conference playoffs. They are one of many East teams hanging around .500, waiting to get hot. But the lack of scoring could doom the Blueshirts’ postseason chances. Stamkos is optimistic about the opposing team, however, saying they have the talent to do it.
The Rangers have scored the second fewest goals in the NHL through 16 games. They have to solve that problem make Mike Sullivan’s system work and keep this veteran core together.
