Pretty crazy stats from Oso Ighodaro
For several years, the NBA has added a “plus/minus” (+/-) column to its stat sheets. This is the difference in points when a player is on the court, and tonight, Very Ighodaro tied for third all-time with a +/- of +52 u a Suns win against the Pacers.
Which means Phoenix scored 52 more points than Indiana when its interior was on the court. Or two points per minute since Oso Ighodaro played 26 minutes. Time for him to score a career-high 17 points and add 7 rebounds, 3 blocks and 3 steals.
“I thought it was a typo when I looked at the paper” says Jordan Ottthe new coach of the Suns. “But it reflects the impression we have… Every time he’s been on the pitch, he’s pushed at both ends of the pitch. I thought he was fantastic defensively. We’re asking him to switch a lot of players while defending wide and be aggressive… He’s been everywhere!”
For his part, the person in question assures that he is really not interested in such statistics.
“Yes, my teammates told me about it” he simply replied. “I felt like I was doing what I had to do to win. That’s been my goal the last four or five games. I don’t care about the stats. I don’t care about any of that. I’m just trying to make a positive impact on the game.”
For the record, the record belongs to former Rockets winger Luc Mbah a Moute. One night in 2017, against the Nuggets, he finished the game with a a difference of +57. Four years ago, Gary Trent Jr. came close to a +/- of +54 against the Warriors when he played for the Raptors.
