Private Wallace steps out of the shadows

Cason WallaceIf quickly established himself as the quintessential soldier Thunderespecially for its defensive qualities, Cason Wallace not a particularly great shooter. That’s probably why than the Nuggets gave him space last night… and he punished them with a career high 27 points at 7/11 away!

“My teammates found me” he simply explainedespecially trying to avoid the shower his teammates had planned after the match. “And I felt confident when the ball went.

It was visible, and Marc Daigneault was happy to see this soldier, usually in the shadows, receive the light.

“He is one of the many players in our team who fulfill his role very well”explains the coach. “His winning percentage, as a professional, is incredible. But one of the downsides of playing in a team at this level, as a young man, is that sometimes your role can seem limited compared to your peers. If he was on a worse team, he probably could have done a lot more and his role would have been a little wider. And so when you have a player who is so invested in the role and success, you invest in the success of the team, and whoever has a night like this, everyone is happy for him.

Because Cason Wallace probably isn’t going to make 7 3-point shots every night. But his teammates know he’ll be there in every matchup against the opposing ball carrier.

“He shot really well tonight, but I don’t want that to overshadow the fact that he’s been incredible defensively for us every night.”concludes Chet Holmgren. “It’s great to have such a player in the team.
