Quentin Grimes kicks the Sixers against the Hornets

Two matches, two victories! For now, we are not bored with the Sixers that after their success in Bostonbeat the Hornets 125-121. For their home opener, Philadelphia once again had to work hard until the end, and it was Quentin Grimes who completed the comeback that set the room on fire.

Before that, the public warmed up from the start with a very active VJ Edgecombe on defense and an aggressive Joel Embiid. on their side, Tyrese McKay is simply on fire (4/5 on 3-pointers), and despite the exploits of LaMelo Ball, the Sixers are up seven points after 12 minutes (36-29).

As Philly takes a 10-point lead, a hard hit on Brandon Miller hits him in the shoulder on a harmless rebound. He’s being replaced by rookie Zion James, and we’re just seeing him! With the Sixers no longer able to play simple, the Hornets are taking advantage of that with their starters. First, Ryan Kalkbrenner dunked, then Kon Knuepel, who scored from mid-range to tie the game (58-58). Quentin Grimes stops the bleeding to allow the Sixers to hold on to a short halftime lead (61-58).

Andre Drummond’s big project

Without Dominik Barlow, cut in the elbow, the Sixers return to the court with the same shortcomings. Limited to 20 minutes per game, Embiid goes out very quickly, and the team crumbles. Lost balls, clumsiness, fragile defense… The Hornets took advantage of every mistake to escape, and Miles Bridges made the difference on 3 points, as well as in creation. Nick Nurse multiplies experiments, but it doesn’t change anything and Ball knocks out the Sixers and gives a 10-point advantage before the last act (96-86).

The moment chosen by Justin Edwards to come out of his box with three consecutive game-winning shots. On his side, Andre Drummond is doing a lot of offensive rebounding, and the Sixers are starting their crazy comeback. After Kalkbrenner’s dunk, the Sixers went on an 8-0 run and finally took control (117-116). Two minutes left to play. In the lead, Maxey is perfect, and it is he who moves Quentin Grimes, alone at 45°, to set up a 3-point release (122-119).

There are 15 seconds left in the game, and the Hornets will rush for the last attack. Behind, Drummond and then Maxey confirm the victory of the Sixers on free throws (125-121). After two games, Philly is part of an exclusive club of six teams still undefeated.

What to remember

Embiid is very limited. The author of 20 points in 20 minutes, Joel Embiid is at 20% of his possibilities. Although there is a slight improvement in terms of mobility, he has no swing in his legs and only raises his arms on the rebound. Fortunately, Andre Drummond compensates.

Miller is already down. After playing only 27 games last season, Brandon Miller is already back in the infirmary. The Hornets winger injured his own shoulder during a mini-jump tackle.

Trou d’air. Unlike the Celtics, the Sixers experienced a large air gap after returning from the locker room. The good news is that they still managed to get through it, and it makes for some fun matches to watch. The public has not vibrated like this for a long time.
