Rais is now the ‘watch team’ in the Ketel Marte trade talks
With Tampa Bay trading Shane Baz and Brandon Love recently, the team has been stockpiling potential capital in a potential bid to acquire big-name talent, and one player linked is the Arizona Diamondbacks star Ketel Marte. As rumors swirled around Zrak and Martathe latest series of reports suggests that a potential chase could take place.
One of the areas Arizona reportedly wants in a possible return for Marte is the pitching, either MLB-ready or the prospects Tampa Bay got in the deals for Baz and Lowe. With the Rais already having a substantial farm system, plus the acquisition of six prospects in recent deals, it gives them an avenue for a huge tradeas MLB.com mentions Marte.
“The Rays already had a pretty good farm system — No. 10 in MLB Pipeline’s midseason rankings — before acquiring six prospects in these two deals. That could give them the resources to complete another big trade this offseason. One notable option is a deal involving D-backs second baseman Ketel Marte,” wrote MLB.com.
The Rays and Diamondbacks have discussed Ketel Marte in the past

While it is The Rais are busy this off-season with the trades mentioned aboveone might assume it’s all in an effort to build up the capital to set off for Marta. However, it doesn’t seem like it will be the first time, as Arizona and Tampa Bay have negotiated for Marte in the past.
“Parting ways with Lowe, the Rays’ longest-tenured player, leaves Tampa Bay with a huge void at a key position,” the site continued. “And the Rays are one of several teams reportedly involved in trade discussions regarding the three-time All-Star. Earlier this month, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reported (subscription required) that the Rays and D-backs were discussing a deal that would include Baz and fellow rookie Ryan Peppiot heading to Arizona.”
The Rays are looking to improve after finishing 77-85, which placed them in fourth place in the AL East, as getting Marte would energize them after posting a .283 batting average with 28 home runs and 72 RBIs.
