Richard Jefferson backs Luke Cornett in Hawks Magic City controversy

Richard Jefferson expressed his attitude toward the San Antonio Spurs center Luke Cornet will be critical of the Magic City Atlanta Hawks promotional night March 16.

Cornett wrote a letter opposing the Hawks hosting “Magic City” night. Jefferson agrees with Cornett, but for his own personal reasons, mostly because of the way he wants to raise his own children, he says: I wouldn’t want them to see that at an NBA game.

“I’m going to side with Luke Cornett. Magic City, everybody has the ability to do whatever they want. Spend their money how they want, but the NBA, the brand, the logo. Let’s just say this, I think the NBA can partner with whoever it chooses, but I understand what Luke Cornett is saying. Especially in a very delicate moment, women’s rights are, also, talk about women’s rights,” Jefferson said at 11:11 p.m. on the Road Trippin podcast.

“To look at this and say, hey, we want to do it, but there’s going to be kids in the game. Those are the things that, for me, I’m taking my kids, my nine-year-old and my eleven-year-old, that’s not what I want to introduce my kids to, that’s just me.”

Richard Jefferson and Luke Cornett may have their reservations about celebrating the Magical City of Hawks. There’s time to figure out what Atlanta can do for the event, but the recent attention will bring a lot of scrutiny before the contest takes place.

Atlanta is 31-31 on the season, holding onto ninth place in the Eastern Conference standings. They are ahead of the Charlotte Hornets by 0.5 games and the Milwaukee Bucks by four games while trailing the Miami Heat and Orlando Magic by 1.5 games.

With four straight wins, the Hawks will be looking forward to their next match. They are on the road when they face the Bucks on March 4th at 9:30 PM ET.
