Rick Carlyle finally in the 1000th
A month after his last win and following a Pacers franchise record 13-game losing streak, Rick Carlisle could finally taste success again against the Hornets. It is so symbolic because it is the 1000th of his career.
“I am happy for my players, for the franchise and for our fans. People live and die with us for a month and it was complicated”, comments coach regarding this long month of failure.
Don’t want to talk about your individual performance? “He doesn’t like to talk about himself, to celebrate what he has done”, announced TJ Connell. “He only thinks about the team and the teams he’s coached before. He wants to talk about the players. That’s how Rick is.”
A very exclusive club
Only, we don’t enter the 1000 club every morning: only eleven of them have reached such a height. So Gregg Popovich, Don Nelson, Lenny Wilkens, Jerry Sloan, Pat Riley, George Karl, Doc Rivers, Phil Jackson, Larry Brown, Rick Adelman and Rick Carlyle. Therefore, it still deserves a few words, even if it is about others.
“I know all the coaches on this list very well. I arrived on the bench in 2001 and many of them were still in charge. I coached against many of them, for so long. I have great respect for them. They were not just opponents, they became friends. I am very lucky”salutes the Indiana coach. “The most important thing is not me or this achievement: it’s honesty. We have good people, great players. I’m happy to work with Kevin Pritchard, Chad Buchanan, Ted Wu, amazing guys.”
