Rudy Gobert suspended after his latest flagrant foul on Victor Vembanyama
no Rudy Gobert with the Wolves on Tuesday night in Milwaukee. The French pivot will normally be suspended (unless the NBA judges its referees after the fact…) for the next game due to the fifth flagrant foul he received last night, against Spurs.
He was punished with Flagrant I for letting his feet drag under the supports of his compatriot Victor Vembanyama who shot three-pointers. With his 29 points and 7 rebounds, the latter made life difficult for the four-time best defender of the year (2 points against 1/4 shooting, 14 rebounds).
Rudy Gobert is the player who received the most fouls since the beginning of the NBA season. To sanction players who commit too many fouls, the league introduced a points system:
- Flagrant 1 = one point
- Flagrant 2 = two points
A flagrant crime
And when a player exceeds 6 points, as is the case with Rudy Gobert, he gets a one-game suspension.
- A player with 4 points commits a Level 2 foul: automatic one-game suspension
- A player with 5 or 6 points commits a Level 1 flagrant foul: automatic one-match suspension
- A player with 5 or 6 points commits a Level 2 foul: automatic two-game suspension
- Player with 7 or more points who commits a flagrant foul: automatic two-game suspension
In detail, the French pivot already had three Flagrant 1 and one Flagrant 2, for pushing Mark Williams into the air. Therefore, he was at 5 points, and with the last flagrant foul, he reached 6 points. Therefore, he would receive a new suspension of one match if he commits another Flagrant 1, and two matches if it is a Flagrant 2.
