In April, he reached a winning attempt while beaten cruisers in northern Wales to win a wheelchair trophy in a wheelchair, for other clubs. In June, he was invited to a 17-strong national score in England.

And then in August, he made the finals of 10 to fly to Australia – qualifying for reference based on residence. Its domestic season was closed last month when Castleford was beaten by Rohdale in the Grand Final Championship.

“She feels amazing to be part of the ashes,” he said. “England is family. I feel privileged to be part of it.

“I think my experiences with Portugal help me deal with pressure. I can take some things I learned in professional settings on it.

“I’m currently enjoying it. Everything happens for a reason, if I try to understand the reason, it won’t happen tomorrow, I’m not sure. I hope it’s a good thing, but I’m here.”
