Russell Westbrook couldn’t help himself after playing the hero in a wild win against the Rockets
A veteran Russell Westbrook was so excited about the Sacrament The Kings beat the Houston Rockets 125-124 in overtime that he couldn’t contain himself during his postgame media availability. Westbrook, who grabbed a critical layup with 9.9 seconds left, grinned from ear to ear as he fielded the questions. Dennis Schroder made the go-ahead three with 3.1 seconds left.
After the nail biting session, Westbrook discussed the Kings an impressive victory against the Rockets.
“It’s great, man. I don’t care how we did it, but we won,” Westbrook said. “It doesn’t matter what the haters say. As long as we have a win now, we can move forward.”
Westbrook also reacted to Schroder’s three-pointer, including how the Kings fans supported their team during the overtime victory.
“Big opportunity, obviously needed. It was good. The crowd was energetic,” Westbrook added. “They stayed with us, which was good for us, especially during that time.”
Hopefully, the Kings can use the upset win against the Rockets as a momentum shift to capture more in the near future.
“Just putting my best foot forward, trying to put some wins together,” Westbrook said. “And we did our best, competing, and I think we did a good job tonight of just getting over the hump and closing out the game.”
DeMar DeRozan led the Kings to victory with 27 points and nine assists. Keegan Murray added 26 points, Schroder had 24 points and Westbrook finished with 21 points, 13 rebounds and four assists.
Dennis Schroder stuns the Rockets with the Kings’ winner

After the head coach Doug Christie called out his team’s lack of energyRussell Westbrook, Dennis Schroder and the Kings responded with one of their most impressive wins of the season. On a five-game losing streak, including a pair of losses to the Trail Blazers, the Kings showed some life against one of the better teams in the Western Conference in the Rockets.
Schroder’s winning three topped a hard-fought win against the Rockets at the end of the Kings’ one-point victory (125-124) is the kind of response coach Christie was looking for from his team.
