Sacramento is looking for a former 1st round pick, but there’s a problem
The The Sacramento Kings won to an uninspiring start to the 2025-26 NBA season, currently at 2-4. Although the team recently pulled off a surprising win on the road via the Milwaukee Bucksconcerns about the Kings’ roster formation strategy, or lack thereof, have come to the fore so far this year.
Recently, NBA insider Marc Stein came to X, formerly Twitter, with an update about one name the Kings intend to add to their roster, albeit with a caveat.
“The Kings currently have the full 15 standard NBA contracts, but (NBA insider Jake Fisher) reports below that they have interest in signing the free agent center.” Precious Achiuva.”
Achiuva is a talented big man who most recently played for the New York Knicks, seeing sporadic minutes during each of their last two postseason runs. While there are concerns about his durability as well as his instincts on the defensive side of the ball, Achiuva has the occasional ability to knock down perimeter shots as well as finish around the rim and run in transition.
Those traits would certainly help make the Kings’ offense a little more versatile as opposed to the steady diet of mid-range jumpers the team currently rattles off the rim.
Tough start for the Kings

Many didn’t expect the Sacramento Kings to be very good this year, and so far the team has lived up to those predictions. While signing Russell Westbrook will give the team some fun moments (probably both positive and negative), there aren’t many obstacles in the vision for this Sacramento roster moving forward, as the team doesn’t have many young players to get excited about.
Sacramento has the bottom line in their pursuit of a draft pick, as they have at least a decent amount of talent on their roster, to the point where they could theoretically break into the game.
The Kings will next take the floor on Monday night on the road against the Denver Nuggets.
